International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) runs across Years 7-10 and provides excellent preparation for the IB Diploma Programme in Years 11-12.

The MYP aims to produce independent learners who are internationally minded and who possess the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to participate responsibly in a changing and increasingly inter-related world.

The MYP curriculum consists of eight compulsory subject groups: Language A (English and Indonesian), Language B (Mandarin), Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Physical Education, The Arts and Technology.

To meet Indonesian Government regulations, Religion is taught as a separate subject with specialist teachers currently provide lessons for Christian, Catholic, Buddhist, Hindu and Moslem students. Civics is integrated into Humanities. Teachers in all curriculum areas integrate Indonesian culture and values into their programmes.

English is the language of instruction and communication in all MYP subjects except for Bahasa Indonesia. This provides a solid foundation for the IB Diploma Programme.

The classroom curriculum is supported by a range of camps, excursions and activities in which all students are required to participate.

Each year, MYP students must complete 25 hours of Community and Service out of school hours and maintain a journal for recording their hours and reflections.  In Year 10, the final year of the MYP, students complete a major Personal Project which engages them in independent inquiry and reflection.

MYP assessment is school based, continuous and varied. In Year 10, samples of course work and student assessments are sent to the IBO for moderation by external assessors. The moderation process ensures that international standards are maintained.

At the end of Year 10, students are counseled into a choice made from the full IB Diploma Programme, the IB Certificate Programme of 6 IB subjects, the National Science Programme or the National Humanities Programme. The choice is made after a comprehensive information and counselling programme during the second semester of Year 10.
